John Deere 210 39 Bagger

Howdy all,

Has anyone ever seen or attempted to add a bagger to a John Deere 39" deck on the 200 series tractors? I have searched and searched the net and all I found was that the 47" deck could be fitted with a bagger. If I could only find a lower bagger tube (from a JD, Craftsman, MTD etc)that could fit to the deck I could build the rest. I modified my 42" 2004 Huskee with a Craftsman 3 hard bin bagger. I used MTD tubes and custom built the bracket to attach the bagger works great. If I could only do the same for the John Deere 210.

Thanks in advance

If you want something bad enough, anything is possible. Depends on how much time and money you want to spend.

I put a Craftsman bagger assembly on my JD 185. I found a correct debris fan for the 48" deck. Bolted the bracket onto the back of the rider. Heated up an old Craftsman chute and formed it to the JD fan. Works good enough for me.

rrobert,

Cool! I just tried to fit my 42" MTD mower deck tube and its real close! I'm with ya, I will get a heat gun and form the tube in one little spot so it fits perfectly on the deck. Man that MTD lower tube is almost a perfect fit. I will add my 42" MTD Upper tube to see what the overall length will be. Hope its long enough to reach the rear of tractor for the bagger.

The 38 deck was the replacement deck for 200-series tractors if you wanted to bag your clippings. The 39 and 47 was not known to move enough air to blow clippings up a chute. You could adapt the blower attachment for the 46 deck (300 series tractors) and put it on the 47 deck.

You might want to put some high-lift blades on that deck to give yourself a better shot at acceptable performance bagging.

Your mileage may vary - standard cautions apply, etc.

Yeah the factory blades are almost flat. I want to put gator blades on it. I like the 39" deck over the 38" as it has 3 blades vs. Two. The 3 blade doesn't leave that annoying stripe down the center due to the clearance between the two blades on a two blade set up. I wonder why the 39" and 47" decks don't produce much air? Is it due to leaks or the blades.

It's the whole design of the deck. The 38 deck was taller (deeper) than the 39 and 47. The newer decks all look more like the 38 deck if you look at them. I had though of adding some sort of skirt to my 47 to get more depth and then the gator blades could possibly move some air.

You and I think alike. I was thinking off adding a 4" rubber skirt fastened to the inside. I would give my self 1" to attach leaving 3" to hang below the deck. Add Gator blades and it might work. I think I have decided to run some tests first. I am going to get the 42" MTD lower and upper tubes installed and mow. I want to see how much grass shoots out of the upper tube. If there isn't much velocity then I will go to plan B (Gator Blades). If that doesn't help then plan C (Skirt. If that proves to be the winning combo I will add the Craftsman 3 Bin Hard Bin Bagger to the back!
Right now I am trying to locate a belt and pulley cover for that 39" deck as well.

Thanks for you insight

You might want to look for an MTD deck and weld the brackets on it for the John Deere. You should be able to find an MTD/White/etc for free that someone blew the engine or transaxle on. Thjey are a little flimsy but some of them don't get very many hours.

no offense ,just what i have learned thru the shop and customers if you want to bag and have results then we DO NOT RUN the gator blades only the high lift ones. they will give the most suction is what we see and works best here. i run a bagger unit with out blower and it works just as well if not better than the ones with blowers form what we have found here. damp grass especially. it all depends alot on the decks. does the deck you trying to use have holes near the hub assemblies,if not then they will not draw as much air in to make good suction. Gators we find are great for when you plug the deck discharge to mulch, and we find the customers with most complaints of deck plugging are running the gators style. this just what we see in our shop as far as blades go. high lift blades keep the decks the cleanest but will also throw the most rocks if you cross drives. I have a complete used bagger off speedztr 46 if thats any help. it uses no blower and works great. good luck
