Any one ever have this problem?

While working on an engine swap on a JD 214, a horrible job, I hit upon the idea that this forum might have some experience in my car problem.

I have lost 5 hubcaps off the right rear wheel on a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Different rims as the tires are rotated. Two factory caps, three Hub Cap Heaven will-fits. Never hear them leave. Rarely jump a curb when turning right. Good thing the car is thrifty on gas so I can afford new hubcaps! 175,000miles, noisy Michelin tires.

Anyone heard of this problem or how it was solved short of taking all hubcaps off?

I'm thinking there has to be a turn you are making that causes the rim to flex enough to pop it off. If it isn't rim-specific it has to be related to the car. The only time I ever had trouble was with a reproduction set and one of them didn't have enough rolled edge to keep it on. It does seem odd that it isn't following the rim when you rotate. Have you noticed a pattern to when/where it departs?

Here's a thought: is there play in the axle shaft? If you made a turn and there was something wrong there the castellated nut on the axle stub could come out farm enough to bump the cap off.

Well I do have a high speed turn to the left as I380 North bound joins I20 West bound and I take that road frequently. I also thought I lost the first cap while North bound on I29 when a sudden strong easterly gust of wind slewed the car and I thought then it might have caused the rim to flex.

Local town police used to have Fords that wouldn't keep the covers on. They solved that by using zip ties from the inside through the wheels and covers.

lol, you aren't going to find those hubcaps. They fly like a frisbee when they come loose. I had a 77 Ford F250 that lost the hubcaps. Just drove without.

You may want to clean the wheels thoroughly to get brake dust etc off then rough them up slightly with a medium grit sand paper. They are held on with pressure & friction so there has to be a good surface to grab.
