The ACR quit working . Can they be readjusted? Engine runs fine just hard to crank over.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm thinking you have two options, 1.adjust the exhaust valve clearance to specs, if that doesn't work pull the engine and remove the oil pan and see what's broken on the ACR. IIRC there is a spring and a weight maybe if the spring is broken it doesn't pop the lobe up to to open the exhaust valve while your turning it over. This is assuming you've checked all of the connections and cables between the battery and starter and made sure the cables aren't all corroded and grungy inside.

To add to what he said: He is right about the battery, electrical connections and such.

1. You must adjust the valves to specification. Hopefully this will solve your problem. You also need the valves in correct adjustment in order to adjust the compression release if it is possible.

2. In some of the older Kohlers the compression release could be adjusted. The manual gave a procedure. BUT it only works on engines produced before a certain code date. I am thinking the later engines had a harder trip finger and it would rather break than bend.
I am also betting you can only adjust the old ones once or twice and then they break off too.

Best look at a manual and remember there is some risk involved.

Thanks for the replies. Was able to find an engine manual. The end of the compression release tab was worn off, not opening the valve enough. Has the older S/N engine, was able to get it back to specs. Between valve adjustment & bending the tab. Works great again.
