Old troybuilt problem running

I have an Old troybuilt rototiller. It was old when I bought it 30 years ago. But, it has been a dependable machine. The problem is that it will
run for 15 seconds to 2 or 3 minutes and quit. It will immediately restart; repeat shutting down.
Checked spark, it is good. cleaned and adjusted carburetor. The gas is fresh. Runs nice till it stops. Forgot to mention it is a Tecumseh 3.5hp engine. I would like to keep it original. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like a carb problem to me, Does it run better with the choke partially close, is gas cap vent open. I have a 6 horse Tecumseh on a 1966 wheel horse that took me 20 years to get running right, finally bought another engine at an auction and started swapping parts. Fly wheel fixed it.

I thought they used 6hp Tecumseh engines. Check the gas flow from the tank to the carburetor. Should have a full stream of gas. If that looks ok your carburetor may need a good cleaning. Hal

I agree with gab as to problem being a carb problem or fuel system related problem.

Possible carb problems-float needle sticking or needle/seat need replacement, float sticking or float has a leak/hole in it.

fuel system problems-dirt/water in bottom of tank plugging tank outlet, fuel filter needs replacement(if eng has)if tank has shutoff valve on tank outlet/in line valve same plugged/restricted due to dirt, fuel line needs replacement due to age or line breaking down due to ethanol content of gas,dirt/hunks of fuel hose in carb body between inlet nipple/float needle seat either plugging/restricting inlet passage or float needle seat.
