replacement fuel tank recomendations

I have an old Terramite that is missing the fuel tank. Where can I get a replacement fuel tank in the 2 to 3 gallon size for this tractor? Local parts stores can get any tank you want for newer engines provided you have the make and model. Parts are no longer available for this engine. Is there a supplier of universal tanks that can be adapted to any machine? Fabricating brackets or support hardware is not a problem. Any round or square tank can fit in the area on the tractor.

Can you not purchase one of the newer tanks and fabricate some mounts for it? If you were able to get some 'universal' tank you would probably would have to do that anyway so why not for a tank you can just go in and buy?

Graham,

That's what I tried to do when I went to the parts store. The guy at the counter wanted a make and model to search for a unit. I was instructed to research different engines to see what would work and then they would order one. The reason I asked for a universal one was to save all the time looking at different engines. Most of the retailers around me do not stock the larger engines to reference.

The old cub cadets from the 70s back have Kohler engines and very nice square tanks. They are like 2 gallon in size. My 108 is set up like this. That should be big enough. They have a nice big screw cap on top. Fits the old "lead gas" size nozzle. Jeffcat

I put a skag walk behind plastic gas tank, on my Struck crawler, a coupla years ago, cause the original metal tank was just too small. I found it at surpluscenter.com, if they don't have it, I'd try fleabay. You prolly will have to fab up some support brackets, though.
