782 cub cadet rising engine oil

I've got a 782 cub cadet with kt17 series 2. after 2000 hrs. on the original engine I put a new engine in it year before last. There are a couple things that concern me, 1) the engine seems to gain oil on the dipstick and 2) there is some oil spray inside the air breather, coming from the crankcase breather i assume. The new engine has approximately 50 hrs. any ideas? I sure want to take care of this new engine. $$$
thanks jh

Are you sure your not getting gas into the oilpan? This was quite common on the Kohler K series engines when the diaphram in the fuel pump failed.

These engines are known for having the needle stick in the carb, allowing gas to get into crankcase. The best way to stop this is to put a shut off on the gas line and shut it off every time you are finish using it.

The two other comments are right on. The needle and seat is leaking. install a fuel shut off valve in the fuel line.
There is a reed valve under the valve cover. This valve is right under the air cleaner. Replace reed valve and your oil in the air cleaner will go away.

I ran into the is last week. Definitely check needle and seat.

I changed the oil on a 5hp briggs engine. I checked the oil a few days later and the level showed very high but it looked new.

I decided to dump some out and I was shocked. The "oil" was thin(watery) and very black..

Just remembered:
If this engine has a fuel pump, the bad diaphram could be leaking fuel into the engine.

thanks for all the replies. I did drain and refill the crankase .I will make a point to shut off fuel when i get done mowing. The tractor has a fuel shut off valve under the tank but I think i will try to re-route the fuel line and install one in the dash or along side the frame rail. Otherwise you have to remove the side panel after each use.
