Briggs Intek Carb Disassembly

I have a early 2000's model "Scotts by John Deere" mower (S1742) that has sat for over a year. Of course the gas is bad, and I need to clean the carb. Everywhere I look online says there is supposed to be a 1/2" nut under the bowl, between it and the anti-backfire solenoid that allows the bowl to be removed. Mine does not have that.
Can anyone tell me how to remove the bowl from this carb?

Thanks!
Tommy D.

The anti backfire solenoid is the nut. It either has a nut(plug) or the solenoid holds the bowl on.

Remove the solenoid and the bowl should come off.

Be prepared to replace the bowl gasket if it leaks after reassembly.

Also it is a pretty tight fit. You may need to grind "thin out" a cheap open end wrench. IF THIS IS A NIKKI CARB....... if you really want to take it apart. I DO NOT advise it. If you take out the float and then that white plastic assembly you will drop out a little brass tube. DO NOT LOOSE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are a B$$^75itch to replace. Only from a junk carb after you loose it. NOT in any kit that I have been able to buy. Those kits are around $36.oo a pop..At the bottom of that tube is a VERY VERY tiny "O" ring MAYBE 3/16 inch in diameter. that little ring goes on that little tube and must be massaged back into the body of the carb. Drop of dish liquid or such. If that ring is missing or rotten the engine will run like it is slightly constipated. It does not hunt but sound like it wants to. It will do this in about a seven or eight second cycle. I Just got the little o ring from a mower shop and will do it tonight on my 22hp Briggs. If you are big and brave or very experianced be VERY careful. The Nikki carbs are very simple but are a PITA to work on if you don't know where you are going. Jeffcat

Agian another thought. If it is a Nikki carb that sqwiggly "gasket" just fits around the outside edge of the white assembly. DO NOT get any type of cleaner on it or it will deform all over the place!!!!! You will need to let it sit for about two days till it finally shrinks back to the correct size. Bin there done that. The bowl seals to that gasket next. Be very careful cause that gasket is like $9.oo a pop.

Thanks for the advice....I am finally going to get back to it tonight....

Actually, I probably just need to get the old gas out and see if she will crank. Ran fine when I parked it (famous last words..lol). Can I just remove it and pour out the gas and see if she will run ya think?
