Electrical problem on John Deere 318 B34B

Was cutting grass yesterday and the engine just stopped. No dash lights and no starter. Ran jumper cable to starter and got it to spin. It's like someone just turned off the key. Were do I start looking for my problem?

Check at battery terminal(B) of ign sw with a voltmeter/12v test light,if no power at terminal check wiring harness for a blown inline fuse, most /all 318's have a fuse in line that runs between battery terminal on starter sol & B terminal on ign sw,if this fuse is blown nothing on tractor will work.

Most or all 318 tractors have a circuit breaker on them. It is mounted under the battery box. They go bad or just lose connection.

I think most of the older 318s had fuses. Unless they were updated. Would try everything suggested first. Then maybe disconnect pto coil to rule out a short(not too likely but a possibilty).

Unless they have already been changed out, there are 2 inline fuse holders behind the dash, under the battery. As they age, they develop loose intermittent connections. Common on a 318. Check and make sure they aren"t blown, if not then wiggle them with the key on and see if power returns. Stretching the spring in side will help temporarily, but best thing is to replace them with the new style fuse holders that use the flat fuses.

If one or both are blown, you"ll have to check your lights, pto clutch, and other components to find which one blew the fuse.

Well I finally got time to look into my electrical problem and found that the single wire to the back of the ignition switch was off. Cleaned up the connections and it started. thank all of you for helping.
