i have a john deere f525 mower the pto switch broke an the j d dealer ship gave me new pto the old pto was a rocker switch the new one is pull pto it says to put the purple wire on a termenal the yellow wire next to purple an the two blue wire on other termenals with pto down it will start but pto is on an pull up pto goes off but wount start in off pasishion now wount turn on at all what could be the problem

Do you have an ohm meter? Or did the new switch come with a diagram showing the contact positions?

With the PTO switch in the "off" (pushed in) position, 2 of the terminals will be "closed" (connected) and 2 will be "open" (not connected).

You will need to identify which 2 are "closed". The yellow wire and the purple wire will go on these 2 terminals.

When the switch is pulled to the on position, the 2 closed terminals will open, and the 2 open terminals will close.

The 2 blue wires will go on the 2 terminals that are closed when the switch is pulled.

It was most likely wired wrong, and may have blown a fuse.

If you are not going to use periods or any punctuation, please put each different thought on a separate line. It would sure help us out here.

Since you said it won't do anything now, did you blow a fuse? Just a suggestion since you said it was trying to crank with the pto engaged.

I am assuming it is the same push/pull switch that most of the other mower makers use. I am assuming your switch has either 5 pins or 8 pins on the back.

The way I read your post, you have one of the contacts for the pto clutch circuit on the wrong terminal of the switch. It is up to you to figure out which wires make up that circuit.

Most of those switches are wired so that the contacts inside switch from the middle contact to one of the the outside contacts in one position and when the knob is moved it switches from the middle to the other outside contact.

You want the engine to start with the knob down and you want the engine to not start when the knob is pulled up.

you want the pto to only run when the knob is pulled up and you don't want it to be able to start with the knob pulled up.
