I have a starting problem. When you turn the ignition switch to the start position nothing happens. You can start the engine by running a jumper cable from the battery to the starter. Works fine.

I have changed out the ignition switch and solenoid. I have also shorted or direct wired the safety switches. It"s a puzzler.

Could you run a cable from the battery to the starter with a starter switch (on/off) in between?

Ideas will be appreciated.

Yes, you can run a wire from the ignition switch to the start terminal, but... That will bypass the safety switches. Your tractor, your call.

Looking at the wiring diagram, there are only 2 safety switches, the PTO switch and the neutral/brake switch depending on which transmission. Might recheck the switches and wiring. Look for corroded connectors, high resistance in the switches, pinched or damaged wire.

With a voltmeter/12v test light check that you have 12v at battery terminal(b) on ign sw,if not then starting at ign sw follow battery wire back thru ammeter to battery terminal on starter sol, check for loose/bad connections or possibly a bad ammeter, check for 12v at each terminal of ammeter or put a jumper across meter terminals & see if that cures problem.

IF you have 12v at battery terminal of ign sw,then check pto/brake sw as steve said, these 2 sw's are wired in SERIES,both sw's MUST have a circuit thru them(contacts closed)to get 12v to coil of sol. Also check that area where sol mounting bracket is free of rust/dirt & mounting bolts tight, check between battery pos(+) & sol bracket with a voltmeter/test light for 12v.

When you say you changed out the ignition switch, did you use the correct part?

When I was working on my 108 I tried a Toro switch, since I work for a Toro dealer.
The three teriminals did not do the same things. I had to switch the wires in the plug to get it to work.

almost same problem with 122. place jumper wire from battery to starter and then there is a switch on tractor, between knees, that you have to turn to get the starter to work.

That's a good idea. I'm going to do some more checking as per the suggestions by others. I have a 300 amp cut off switch that should work. What kind of switch did you use?

Yes, that's one of the safety switches. The other safety switch is on the PTO.

The clutch safety switch has been by-passed by the PO.

First thing is download the PDF for the electrical on a 108. You need to "ring out" the circuts. I use a meter set to the ohms setting and it sqweeks when the wires are correct. "B" on the switch is the 12volt power from the battery. There is a fuse in that line. Find that sucker first and see if you have juice. I have a 108 that is damn near MINT. Garage kept and over 95% original. You have something goofy somewhere and just take your time. Get that schematic first!
