Magneto pick up

.010
Ten thousandths.

A good business card is usually the correct thickness.

Or, I use the box from the carton of cigarretes.

Gap depends on make/mod of eng, most briggs eng with solid state ign run .010" as rrobert said,if eng a tecumseh many of the eng with solid state ign run .010"-.015",if eng a tecumseh cast iron block hh series eng with solid state ign & two trigger pins on rear edge of flywheel then gap set to .010" on the LONG pin.

Got something even better. Next time you go to the market and buy a platic tub full of cookies, save the box. The material those boxes are made from are almost always .010 thick. Non magnetic, no scratch, disposable. I use them on chainsaws and small engines all the time. Try it! jeffcat

Most Business cards that I get are .016, or about Six thousandths too thick.

Regardless of "what it says on the Briggs website", and we have been through this before-some coils will not fire if the gap is too wide. BTDT.

Use a feeler gauge. They aren"t expensive and will last a lifetime if you keep them from rusting.

I set the gap so a dollar bill will just slip through. While I do have brass feeler gauges, the dollar in my pocket is closer than the tool box.
