bad gas//troy built bronco lawn mower

I have a troybuilt mower bronco model. it has a 19 hp kohler engine. put some gas in it yesterday evening that was apparently bad. it started running rough and then quit. will I be alright just adding fresh gas to the tank or should I drain the tank? I had added a additive that was supposed to keep the gas fresh (not stabil brand) but it did not help. will I need to do anything else besides changing the gas?

had exactly same thing happen to me, had a good can of gas, or so I thought, put it in mower and spit -sputtered and would only run with choke almost all on--drained tank put in fresh gas and some seafoam(had to get that in) solved the problem took about a minute to get the old cleared out of the carb. gas was about 3wks old in the can.
