Attn 782D or Kubota experts: fuel shut off cable

Cadet dealer tells me the fuel shut off cable is no longer available for IH 782D. I see an electric Kubota shut off that mounts on pump? Could I retrofit to use this shut off with ignition power? I know wiring would not be an issue. More concerned with mount up. I'm ocd about drilling holes and cobble so I don't want to install another control cable/knob assy.

Be careful.

I am thinking that there are two different shutoff solenoids for Kubota engines. You need to know which shutoff you are using.

One has three wires. It is energized on one wire by the starter circuit to pull it on-meaning the engine can be started- and a second circuit holds it while running. If the pull circuit is energized too long it lets the smoke out of the windings. The third wire is the ground.

The second type is controlled by a separate control module and it only operates the solenoid for a few seconds after the ignition switch is turned to "off". Just long enough for the engine to spin down to a stop. The solenoid only has two wires, one is a ground, the other comes from the module. The module has either 4 or 5 different wire onnections depending on which module it is.

If it was me, I would try to either repair your existing cable, find a working used replacement, or retrofit another cable in place of your existing one.

I have seen a universal choke cable used on a Grasshopper mower with a Kubota in it-hooked with a slip connection to the pump control arm.

And I personally ran an un-sheathed wire through the firewall on a Kubota lawnmower so the owner could de-stroke the pump and stop the engine from the operator"s seat without lifting the hood.
