Just went out to start up one of my lawn tractors. Little Jonh Deere 160 from the erly 80s. If they have not run for awhile I ALWAYS check the oil level. It takes little effort and you see if it is correct or is due for a change. I pullled the stick and no oil showed on it. ACTUALLY the stick was spotless cause the "mark" was at the TOP of the stick!!!!! I bought a new gas cap about three months ago and screwed it on. The WINTER gas evaporated and pressurized the damn tank. I had amost TWO gallons of Hi-Test gas in the ENGINE. Drained it in to the catch pan, refill with 5-30w blend oil. And cranked it a couple of times till she caught. LOTS of smoke for a minute or two , but she is fine now. GOOD habit to check that stick. YA NEVER KNOW.... Jeffcat

Your needle and seat is bad. The gas cap had nothing to do with fuel in the oil.
save your self some grief and install a inline fuel shut off valve.

When I took off the cap the tank was still pressurised!!!!! POMMMF! This carb has never had any problems. Also this tractor engine has a fuel pump cause the tank is BELOW the engine.

Found the problem. The new cap from the john deere dealer does not have the little vent hole that the old ones have. Drilled a little tiny #60 hole in the clear cover of the cap. Alll fixed.

NOT sure what the manual suggests, but 5-30 is pretty LIGHT for an air-cooled run in the summer.

Go on the inter net and look up Briggs and kolher engines. THAT is what is in the owner manuals. Also the sticker on the side of the engine shrowd. Just down loaded the manuals from Husqavarna last week. PDF files. The books for 2006 are very much different than even ten years before. I would have aggread with you but they have sure changed. The synthetic blend oils are far better than what used to be. Heck I found out that the neighbor wanted to change his drive shaft spiders and they are GLUED in from the factory.

It will still siphon thru the fuel pump if the needle and seat are bad. I see this all time with gas golfcarts and the engine will fill with gas and the tank is lower than the carb.

Friend that runs the co-ops shop ran into that recently. Had to heat the yokes to melt the glue to get the old u-joints out, then press the new ones in, apparently the heat from pressing the new ones in sets the glue.
