Looking for a used electric golf cart

Getting too old to walk my 6 acre yard for maintenance that it needs.
Don't know what used ones cost yet. Any brand I should avoid?
I think I want a single seat, canopy, with low time battery or new battery and the charger to go with it. Four wheels for rough ground.
Can one pull a light, small cart/wagon to gather cut wood or haul water pails?
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Thanks.
Leo

I have a Easy Go 36V, batteries are good for 6-7 years if you take care of them. The bad part, is the batteries cost more than a used cart. The electric ones are heavy and very easy to high center them off the road. My next one will be a gas model.

Golf carts are designed to traverse paved paths and relatively smooth fairways. They do not have the clearance to pass over rough ground with potholes or other obstructions. For that sort of use, you need an ATV.

Every major city will have at least one company that sells golf carts to the golf courses and services then as well. They often lease the carts to the golf courses for a fixed time period and then supply them with new units when the lease expires. The old units come back to them and they sell them off.

Talk to the Pro Shop at any golf course and they will tell you who supplies them with carts.

Golf carts run on 36 volts DC and use six 6 volt deep cycle batteries that cost about $125.00 each. If you own a cart, then you also need the tools to check the batteries on a regular basis. Those tools are a hydrometer and a Load Tester. The batteries are wired in series to create the 36 volts. If just one cell in one battery goes dead, then the charger will keep trying to recharge that cell and overcharge all the other cells, thus shortening the life of all the batteries.

Yamaha makes gas powered golf carts which might be a better choice for you but no matter what you buy, it must be properly maintained or it won't last.

Perhaps you should see if you could rent one for a week and try it on your property. That way you would know in advance if a golf cart will navigate your lands or not.

I never thought of renting the one I am interested in...duh. The main reason I want a low platform vehicle is that I am getting weary of climbing on and off my old JD lawn tractor which is doing well. Gotta get the old legs up and over the shifter every time I see a stick or a thistle that needs attention not to mention clutching and gear grinding to get going again. Sigh. But this yard is rough with old stumps rotted down, wheeled vehicle operating when ground too wet, etc..
Thanks for the idea! Leo

Ben thru a couple golf carts. You want a roof, four wheels, if you get a gas make sure it is a 4-cycle. Never owned a battery operated cart. Know people who did, ok till they needed batt,s. Battery powered, the newer the better. Charger and modern batts are much better. Pull a lawn cart with mine no problem. Ez-Go Yamaha, Club Car all good. PS, I don't think you want a lift kit either.

Gas golf carts have less ground clearence than electric carts do due to the was the axles and rear diff. are made. The three major brands are the one to stick with( club car, EZGO , Yamaha) . Any other brand will give you problems because they are made in China.all three make a 48 volt electric cart and all of them have a gas utility cart that you might consider. EZGO has a neat gas unit that is call a Terrain 250, has a 13 HP Kawasaki engine. This unit has all terrain tires and is lifted about 4 inches over a standard cart. Hope this helps.

That is interesting information. Would it not be fair to say that golf courses use the regular type of cart, whether gas or electric and that the high clearance cart you describe (Terrain 250) would have no appeal to them?

If that is true, then finding a used Terrain 250 for a price equal to that of the common golf cart is going to be difficult.

How long the Terrain 250 has been available will also impact highly on the price for used machines. While it sounds as if the Terrain represents the ideal choice for the OP, I am concerned that a used one will be priced out of his reach.

As an example here is a 2012 I saw and it is priced at $6500.00

A Google search indicated that the Terrain has only been around since 2012 but if that is incorrect, then please advise. There were only a few such carts for sale and all were priced well over the 6 grand mark.

Something tells me that the OP is not looking to pay more than 2 grand but he can speak for himself on that issue.
ez go Terrain

Leo,
Sounds like you should look into a newer hydrostatic mover.
Many newer tractors are step through, with no center tunnel.
If you take the mower deck off you may have good enough ground clearance for your needs.

I currently am on my 2nd. ergo 36volt electric and I would highly recommend an ezgo. I live on 10 acres and at age 67 I use mine in the matter you describe with absolutely no issues. standard ground clearance and regular golf course tires serve me just fine as I recognize the limits it was designed for. proper battery maintenance is critical and really only requires proper water levels. clean connections and regular charging. staying with ezgo is nice; lower purchase price, lower parts pricing and availability and good service and in addition if kept in reasonably good shape fairly good resale value. might add that I added the rear facing seat for grandkids.

I purchased a used (1992) ezgo gas 4 cycle cart and replaced my atv. Much cheaper than purchasing a side by side which was what I intended on initially until a friend convinced me to save some money by getting a cart. Installed a 4 inch lift, and larger rough tires, small aluminum bed, and go about anywhere I want with it. Handy item, but rides a bit rougher than I like, but I actually feel I should add some weight to it to help smooth it out. Gonna get rid of the white paint by repainting it, and just purchased some camo material to cover the white seats.
