Wisconsin SD8 engine check oil

I just got a Wisconsin model SD8 engine at a yard sale. It supposedly was in a golf cart. It has a Delco Starter/generator on it. I can"t find a dipstick and do not know what other type of method they might have used to check oil level.
I would love to hear from anyone that knows. I did get it to crank over quite willingly with the plug out. I don"t know if it was getting power to the coil, The plug was not sparking. I didn"t spend much time on it as I had more important things to work on. This is for a summer/fall/winter project. I can"t find a dipstick and do not know what other type of method they might have used to check oil level.
I would love to hear from anyone that knows.I only gave $5 for it. if worse comes to worse, I see there appears to be a oil fill plug and could put the correct amount in it and make a dipstick.
Thanks, Roy

That oil fill plug may be where you check the oil level. All of my B&S engines have that feature. Hal

Look for a dipstick on a plug somewhere first.

But, on a 1940 Farmall A, there is a drain plug at the bottom of engine(for draining) and a plug just above the top of the crankshaft level. We fill the oil until it comes out of the upper plug hole.

Finally got to check. Yes there is a dipstick connected to the square head pipe plug.
Thanks, Roy
