Honda GC 160 won't stay running

I have a tiller with a Honda GC160 engine. Starts fine, runs great for about 5 minutes, then quits. Will start right back up and do it again.Carb has been off and cleaned, tank off and cleaned. new fuel filter, seems to be pumping plenty fuel when it stops. Anyone have any suggestions as to the cause?

It may be starving for fuel. I had a 190 that did the same thing. I took the fuel nozzle out of the carburetor and cleaned the holes with a set of tip cleaners. This opens the holes a small amount and the fuel flows better.

I had a B&S on a generator that would only run with the choke half closed. I did the same with the tip cleaners and it now runs just fine.

Hope this helps.

Assuming the oil level is good, try disconnecting the kill switch from the coil. Could be a problem with the oil level monitor or a short in the stop circuit.

I have one of those engines that I fought for days. Turns out the Honda fuel shut off was messed up. If it was all of the way on it let just a trickle through. I started opening it just half way and the problem was gone.
