John Deere 285 PTO switch trouble shooting

Picked up a super clean, very quiet model 285 with 607 hours. I can't get the deck to work and assume the toggle switch on the dash is the PTO switch. It doesn't flip from side to side Seems stuck in position. Before I put together a parts order, I would like to make sure it is just the switch. Is there a way to check the PTO by jumping the terminals with a piece of wire?

The switch is a two motion switch, to engage and disengage.   You must pull it out then move from disengage to engaged position, same when shutting off, pull then move.   It is made that way as a safety feature.

There will be more than just the PTO clutch wires on the back of the switch. There will be safety start lock out, and seat switch terminals also. You need to know which 2 to jump or it could damage the wiring or switches!

Trace the wires or look at a wiring diagram first!

Going from memory here & agree partly. I have been wrong many times before but pretty sure this time.
To turn on, pull out, then move to side, prevents accidently turning it on.
To turn off just move to side, no need to pull out.
