Am wanting to get into rebuilding Carbs for B/S engines and selling them on E bay. Well today A Amish small engine shop Give Me a 2'x2'x1' deep box full of carburetors. No tags, Any way to fine out what they are for? All different crabs. Some older some newer. He has two mores boxes. Thanks. Rusted.

I don"t see how you can come out o.k. doing that.
The reason the Amish guy has all those is it was cheaper labor-wise to install a new carb than it was to fool with the one that went into the box. I have a few boxes sitting around here myself for the same reason.

There is a code number on one of the carb flanges on the newer carbs but I don"t have the info to decode it.

I'm with TRK, afraid you'd be leaving yourself wide open for disgruntled customers.

Even if you were able to 100% test and identify every one, which would be a difficult task, someone is going to put it on an engine with other problems, then it will be all your fault 'cause it don't run right!

Ebay appears to run a pretty tight ship, get many complaints, even unwarranted ones, and they pull the plug on you!

Now if you could find another market source, something you would have more control over, maybe...

I don't know that I'd try rebuilding them, but if you can ID what they are they may go for a good price as is. There are many of the older carbs that are no longer available. They fetch a pretty good price from those that need them, especially if you got them free.

rusted nuts,

As someone has already said about it being more cost effective to replace the carbs. instead of rebuilding, there may also be another reason as to why he gave them to you and that being that they're bad carbs. If there was money in it he would have probably fixed them himself . A good used carb can go for $10.00 - $25.00 depending on carb. I was priced a carb . kit for a Nikki carb. on a 23 hp Briggs OHV twin cylinder motor which was app. a 2004 model motor for $100.00 . So ,by the time that you buy the carbs ( future ones ) , rebuild kits ,and other parts for them that is not in the kits , carb cleaner and other misc. and factor in labor , you will have to price them way up there . So , by the time the customer pays for the carb. and shipping and possible taxes ,they would probably be better off buying a new one . Also ,as some said about the carb . being put on a bad engine and your carb. being blamed ,that leads to another question in order to prevent that possibility - How can you test the carb before you sell and ship it to make sure that it's working right so that you know that it's a good carb. ? Also, you can't tell what kind of mechanical skills that the customer might have and can't install the carb. right so that it works right and blames you and says that your carb. is bad . Also, there's no telling what parts ( linkages ) that could have been changed on customers motor with or without them knowing it and when the carb. doesn't work right they blame you !!! Sorry , so long , just laying out some more cons .
