BS Carburetor Pickup Tube - HOW DO I INSTALL??

Guys....I just bought 2 new pickup tubes for my B&S Pulsa Jet Carburetor that goes on the 1976 5 hp flathead. I know that the short one just screws into the carburetor, but the longer one somehow fits over the metal tube and then uses a new ring? clamp? to hold it in place. I just tried slipping the longer tube onto the metal tube and it is a dang tight fit!!! How am I supposed to install this thing!? Also, how would I install the clip/ring to hold it in place? Is there a trick to this cause it aint budging...

I have tried putting it in boiling water for 5 minutes...still tought to get on. I have also tried a lighter....it tried to melt and distort the plastic tube.

Any ideas???

I've tried just about everything too! The replacement "long" tube is horribly designed.

I actually cut off the screen-end from the original brass tube.

Then cut off the small end of the plastic replacement, install in my 5C collet chuck (lathe) and drill the I.D. to a press fit over the original brass tube.

One of these days, I'm going to sit down and design a better way to accomplish this upgrade...and I'll probably tap the hole in the bottom of the carb.

For this carb being discussed....the B&S replacement (long) tubes that I've purchased in the past 10-years have all been impossible to install with out some sort of alteration to the original brass tube and/or the replacement plastic tube. It's almost like they were made for a different carburetor.

I am aware what carburetor it is. And these pickup tubes are pretty much identical to what I put in them in the '80s. And they were no fun to install then, either, but it could be done.
