Simplicity/Agco Allis No Crank

My niece has a Agco Allis thats the same as a Simplicty broadmoor, about a mid 90s model with the Vangaurd engine . The engine won't crank over. Has new battery. I can jump across the large terminals on the solenoid and it will crank. The small blue wire on the solenoid will light a test light while turning the key. The small green wire will only DIMLY light a test light. Any suggestions??
 
Your solenoid may not be grounded when making a start. Do you have to depress a pedal when making a start?. If you have the owner's manual there may be a wiring diagram in there. Hal
 
More than likely, the solenoid is no good.

If you have battery power to one side of solenoid and power to the small wire when you turn the key to "crank", and no power on the other side of the solenoid, then the solenoid is no good.

You could try a voltage drop test if those are good. Could be power going to the lug but not getting to the wire.

The simplicity broardmoor series tractors were made for many yrs & the actual wiring on tractor probably changed also over the yrs,I looked at one wiring diagram for a broadmoore online & the neg voltage to sol coil was provided by transmission safety/netural sw,the +12v to sol from ign sw(S)ran thru the pto safety sw,thru an inline diode and then to other side of sol coil,this might explain the dim light when checking depending where you're checking to as a reference,without a simplicity mod# the diagram I looked at may/may not match your tractor.

The best thing you can do to help yourself is click on link below & see if you can cross ref allis mod# to EXACT simplicity mod#,after that take mod# to a simplicity dealer & see if he can provide you with a wiring diagram OR do a google search for simplicity+mod#+wiring diagram,you might get lucky & find diagram online

Safety switch on the brake pedal, shifter, PTO and seat. Anyone will give a no crank.
 
Disconnect the green wire, connect the test light to the solenoid terminal where the green wire was, ground the other end of the test light.

Try the start switch. The test light should glow bright. If it does, temporarily connect a jumper wire from the solenoid terminal where the green wire was, to ground. Try the start switch, (be careful, all the safety features are now bypassed), it should crank.

If it does, remove the jumper wire and reconnect the green wire. Using the test light, start tracing the green wire back to the first safety switch. Be sure the switch is in the "OK to start" position. Holding the start switch over to start test each side of the switch for a dim glow condition. If both sides of the switch glow dim, move on to the next switch. Keep testing until you get to a switch with one side glowing, the other side not. That will be your problem. Also as you work your way through the safety switches, look for possible bad connection at any harness connectors.
