This unit has a 20HP Onan motor and I started in the normal manner and ran a bit, shut it off and it wouldn't start. Would not turn over and the "dash" lights didn't come on. It is like completely dead. Replaced battery, cleaned terminals on batt and starter, no luck. Checked fuses, wiggled the connections and nothing. I checked the no start things like the blade engagement switch and seat switch. Nothing. Even with the protection switches, the dash lights should come on. I,m stumped.

Follow the voltage from the battery to starter/ignition switch.

Below is a video for a voltage drop test. It is mostly used to find bad connections to the starter but you can apply it to this issue.

I would double check the safety switches and look for fuses.

Just to add to what Joe said: Those tractors had a tendancy to lose connection in the fuse holder contacts. The fuse can look perfectly good, just no power going out the wire beyond it.

Check that battery pos(+) connection at starter sol tight & no connections loose or wires broken off at sol connection, next with a voltmeter/12v test light confirm that you have +12v at battery terminal(B) of ign sw,if not then 20A fuse in wireing harness that connects between battery terminal(B)on ign sw & starter sol blown or wire between ign sw & battery terminal on starter sol broken/disconnected.

IF you have +12v on battery terminal of ign sw then ign sw probably bad or one/more terminals on wiring harness connector for ign loose/bad,remove connector from ign sw & check operation of sw with an ohmmeter & check that terminals in connector aren't loose/discolored due to heat/time.

Click on link below for a wiring diagram of tractor, move mouse pointer over pic & click left mouse button to enlarge.
