11 hp honda engine idles fine but after 4-6 seconds at wot

11 hp Honda on a pressure washer after 4 or 6 seconds of near wide open throttle it starts spitting back through the carb and dies. If I move the throttle back to idle it starts on the first pull and will run with on problem. I have drained the carb bowl thinking of thrash but that did not solve the problem.

If you choke it does it help? My Honda washer was doing something similar. Turns out the fuel shutoff was defective. If I keep it half way between on and off it works just fine. This was when it was new.

Also, make sure the grounding wire to shut it off isn't rubbed through somewhere. The fan may blow the wire and ground it out. I'm not sure whether those have a wire running to the jet on the carb (to cut off fuel when you kill it) but the same thing may be happening there.

Time to narrow it down - fuel or electrical.

Thanks for the advise;
I will disassemble the carb tonight and check the jets and passages.
I will add a fuel filter as I already have one; just not installed yet.
And, I will check the grounding wire.
I have checked the fuel shut off and the spark plug.
Thanks again,

My Honda on my pressure washer was doing the same thing. The gas cap had two little vent holes, it was building up to much pressure in the tank. So I drilled to bigger holes all the way through the cap to relieve the pressure, runs fine now.
