john deere stx38

I have a john deere stx38 the engine runs but its like the transmission has no gears and it will not move forward or back. the tires will turn if set it up on a block the tires spin. But now it will not go into neutral and will not start. any help is appreciated. It is a yellow deck.

Check for a sheared key in the drive pulley. These transmissions do not have oil in them, they are packed with grease and it needs to be cleaned out and repacked about every 5 years to keep it working properly. I have owned an STX 38 for 17 years now and they are good mowers. The yellow deck is much better than the black deck because you can repair the blade spindles on it.

Thanks I will try that and it is a good mower just hated to see it set
