gravely question

Friend of a friend has an old 7.6 convertible, needs a wico mag for it, or his rebuilt ( no spark, I take it). Know any rebuilders close to MD, who would take it on?

Rub the points with some 320 or 400 wet or dry until they're shiny. Make sure the points are opening and closing. Then see if you have fire.
One other thing if there's no fire check the magnetism of the magnets in the mag. Use a flat blade screwdriver. If you ever pull the mag mark the mag using finger nail polish so you can get back in time. THEN DON'T MOVE THE ENGINE. I don't know of any places in Baltimore that repairs mags. Hal

Yup, check the points first, then the condenser. The old Gravely mags can be any of 3 brands I think, at least Wico and E-S. Richards lawn and garden should have parts. There are usually a dozen good Gravely mags on Ebay every day. Timing them isn't hard. 3/8" BTDC.

Josh and Ira Barnes, in Gamber? I think I know them from a few of Tasto's sales.
Email is open, if you have their phone #. Wouldn't want to put it out over the net...

I don't have their number but you can call the Marion Auction Service in Marion PA they'll have their number.Ira also puts some Gravely stuff on ebay you might look there.

It is a common magneto. Any Magneto repair shop
can test or repair it, and has, or can get parts.
The only thing that can go bad is, Points, coil,
or condenser.
