I have An Ingersol graser elect.clutch works well when cold(just starting) but if shut off after 20 mins.it will not engage again until it cools off.this is a replacement dealerpart and it works diff. than original it draws in slowly rather than snapping up to speed as the old one
by the way watch the belt condition when they go stringy and flop they tear up wiring guess what happened to the original

I am NOT an Ingersol expert, but on other machines I have worked on, the "air gap" is adjustable to a certain "spec" (about 0.010" typically, IIRC). Does that need to be done with yours?

Also, is the charging system working, keep the battery at about 14.5 Volts while the engine is running AND are all connections good so (nearly) full battery voltage reaches the clutch's coil?

Thanks its something to check. the batt. is always up when it comes to starting.and the clearance was good mid summer. its A Moweing machine so it hasn't been out since fall Just thinking for the weeks to follow

If you find out anything or discover what this problem is, my son-in-laws tractor does the same thing. I cleaned all connections and put lube on them [dielectric silicone] I adjusted the gap per John Deeres dealer spec sheet. The clutch will engage cold to warm but after mowing for 20 to 30 minutes, on a hot day, if he shuts it off it will not re-engage until it reaches a cooler temp. The battery never goes below 13.7 volts ussually 14.2 I have mowed with the tractor and if I stop to answer a phone call I might as well go get a beer and set for 10 to 15 min. before trying to restart the pto.
