El Toro & other troy-bilt tiller guru`s???`s

I`ve got an old horse(ser.#697513) that my grandpa bought new,but that poor 6hp TEC engines about to be done! I KNOW I`ve seen El toro`s pic of, I think a 10 put on it?!? If ya don`t mind me asking, where was bought (I Think I remember smallengines.com). Anyway, we`ve got a new engine in the budget & its Really need( I think in the budget...lol). Thank you all again in advance!!!....GAS

I bought that 10hp B&S engine in 2006 from the smallenginewarehouse. It's an easy swap. I think I bought a longer throttle cable. The 6hp Tecumseh that came with the tiller I sold for $65.00. It was running ok for a Tecumseh I think that engine was under powered for the Horse model.
If I had known how easy it was to hand crank, I wouldn't have bought the electric start. Hal

20 years ago or more I replaced the 6 horse Tecumseh with another Tecumseh Most guys on here say they're junk, but mine starts on the 3rd or 4th pull every spring.
My son bought a Troybilt horse with no engine, and he bought a ROBIN engine from small engine warehouse. Probably the cheapest they had but it works for him.

You could also go to Harbor Freight and get their 6.5 Honda clone for $99.00 right now and it would work just great. I see the price is $119.99 but I think the is a coupon to get $20.00 off.
Hi Dave, I have a number of Tecumseh engine and they have done great for me, cleaning and adjusting the carbs if they have been sitting for a long time can be a pain but once running they run good, start good.

We did install a HF engine on a Troybilt in our shop 2 years ago. You will need to come up with different bolts to bolt it to the tiller and possibly a different bolt to hold the pulley on the crank.

The pony I did a repower on got an after market Techumse 8hp with the steel sleve. I put the self starter on it and for 15 years it works every spring. More horses can burn the belts if everything is not adjusted on the nose. Jeffcat

Thank you ALL for your advice!, Sorry for it being a `lil late(better late than never!) I did some research & looks like a 3/4 x 2 5/16 shaft to make an easy swap?!? I checked out smallengineswarehouse & coughed a bit on the price of a +7HP engine! I`d rather a 10 like what El Toro`s set up is(thats a perty picture). I Thank you folks again for your input!....Gilbert
