The Sky Is Falling!

It is zero degrees, the wind is blowing, but my Gravely Tractor walk behind started right up! Little exhaust coming out between head, and head gasket as I had forgotten to tighten down spark plug wire holder. This prevented that bolt securing and hitting casting and not a snug fit. No problem fixed that. Now my governor is frozen pulley wheel won't turn. Had to by pass it until the driveway was cleared as the little woman needed to get out. No problem it worked real good at about an idle speed in (8) inches of snow. Great day to stay inside and work on that governor anyway. What an education!

Today in NJ friday, I got a chance to play with my Gravely C-10 in the snow. I got 6 inches of powder and I was ready to go. NEXT was that I had not covered the machine. It looked so cute with the snow all piled up on it. Yea then you try to start it. The blasted ignition switch was frozen! Went inside and took an empty milk jug of hot water outside. poured it all over the switch till it thawed. Machine started right up at 11 degrees and started blowing with my "dog eater" snow blower. Boy it was nice to hear and see such action.!! I even set up my Canon EOS 7D camera on the tripod and did about 10 minutes of video in HD! Parked the machine and found that the ignition swith was frozen again!! Some more hot water and she shut down. I think next time I will trow a tarp over my baby.. Jeffcat

Hi Jeffcat, I just love hearing these kind of stories. I parked my Gravely outside, removed the govenor, placed newspaper down on counter. Left the governor on the counter. we went into town as mom needed blood work. Came back disassembled the governor, what a mess, but it's all cleaned up, oiled up, and ready to go back on. I do have a major problem with it. Couldn't get it apart enough to change the bushing bearing. Have you ever change the bushing bearing? How is it done? Thanks.
Bob

NO I never got into a governor on a model :L: but mine has not been any trouble. Just remember that thing takes 30wt motor oil and fill it to the level plug. Many of those units got trashed cause of low oil.
I would love to get hold of a "Snow Cannon" snow blower but most of them are for the rider tractors.
Just thought of it. Check "Gravely tractor club of America" web site. On the home page there is a listing for literature and manuals. You cannot beleave how much stuff is there!!! There might be a service sheet for the governor. I know the install sheet was there. Go for it! Jeffcat
