john deer 400 engine parts

I doubt if you can find a kit, and individual parts are $$$$ from Kohler, IF they are all still available.

Dollar-wise, it is probably just as well to re-power it.

I have a 400 with a bad engine, and if I ever get a few (LOTS?) bucks ahead, that's what I plan to do.
ONE way to do it...

I dont know what engine you have , but my wifes 420 with an onen was burning oil, I had a Amish guy rebuild it for $550. That was 3 years ago and its still running strong. Parts are quite costly

Try OPE engine parts. The pistons and rings are the same as a K301 12hp engine. Gaskets run around $70. I think connecting rods were around $70 each.

Try NAPA auto parts: "Outdoor Power Equipment
Service Parts" catalog. They have both genuine
Kohler parts, and NAPA brand parts. I have used both kinds, and have found, in some cases,(Head
Gaskets) that thy were the same part. Kohler
brand was repackaged in a NAPA envelope, at a Lower price !

(quoted from post at 23:05:07 12/28/13) What's a 5320s? never heard of it!!!

Probably just a typo.

Looking at tractordata.com, the JD 400 had the Kohler KQ532 engine.

I know that Bolens used the K532S in the HT20.

Most likely the same basic engine but setup a bit differently on the output side(s).
