I took 18 hp briggs apart. The decompression part of cam is broken. My 13 hp honda, the exhaut was used as the decompression valve. The 18 hp single cylinder briggs, the intake was the decompression valve.

I may not repair engine unless I can find a cheap used cam. Looking for a used engine for the 42 inch MTD riding mower. I've seen a variety of engines used ranging form 14.5 to 18.5 hp, briggs and kohler.

I have a used cam on ebay. The listing number is 121206479852. I don't know how to put a link to it. The part number of the cam is 790400 and it replaced 698492. It is from a 15.5hp single cylinder.

Not sure what cam part number I need or if your cam would work. My engine is an 18 hp inteck briggs.

You were given a link to goto to lookup assembly drawings/parts list of eng for correct cam pn in previous post(11/1)all you need is mod/spec# of eng to lookup.
