I have johndeerz225eztrak mowerbought as is was not running try to start only clike check fire to starter with light 12volts taken starter off taken apart fielde in side came lose bought new put on crank up running cut five yards now what start again just cliks again beach test start witch is new good replaced start relay with new just clikes got 12v from switch to start relay retest volts get 12v to starter in crank mode release to on and there is 6.5 or better volts still goinging to starts in on mode would this be a bad igswitch problem . the mower is 2007 modle product id moz225a018006 engine bs no lable but around a 15 hp model 31p or 8 707 type 0123 ei code 061130z look likes d please reply with any imfo thanks an have bless day

First thing to do is get a clearer idea of eng mod#,after that remove flywheel cover & check ring gear on flywheel for damage/wear,in addition check material ring gear is made of,aluminum or steel/cast iron, depending of mod/type# of eng briggs used flywheel ring gears of both types, previous owner/you may have installed wrong starter on eng,if ring gear aluminum starter drive gear must be nylon/plastic,if ring gear steel/cast iron starter gear must be steel, the starters are not interchangeable for different material ring gears due to width/pitch differences in starter gear,if you do install wrong starter on eng starter gear can stay hung up in flywheel ring gear & damage/destroy starter in a short time.

As far voltage reading to sol, when ign sw in on/run position & you read between battery(+) terminal on ign sw & start terminal of ign sw the reading is normal as you are now connecting voltmeter in series between a +12v source & sol coil, due to resistance of coil you are reading voltage drop thru coil.

thanks for the imfo I check starter the engine has a cast flywheel starter has a steel starter gear flywheel cast metal so seems ok there engine model 31p707 bs check today it still click when try to start releast switch to run positon reading 6.5 volts to starter switch should not be no volts to starter in run positon iam thinking could it be a bad ing switch or what pleas more imfo thanks have a bless day

Now that you have correct eng mod# & type# of eng, goto link below and lookup mod/spec# of eng in briggs eng parts listing, confirm pn for starter you installed is same as in parts listing.

Depending on how/where you're checking voltage to sol coil you will get a voltage reading at start terminal of ign sw in on/run position as one side of coil in sol connected to chassis/battery neg(-)as I said before if you are connecting voltmeter between battery terminal on ign sw & starter terminal on ign sw & get a voltage reading this is normal, disconnect wire on coil terminal of sol & check at sw again,if voltage reading disappears then you're reading thru coil, next connect voltmeter to wire you disconnected from sol coil & chassis/battery neg(-),turn/hold ign sw in start position if you now read 12v on meter then there's nothing wrong with ign sw.

Next take a jumper cable direct from battery pos(+) to terminal on starter,if starter cranks eng then problem in sol,if starter doesn't crank eng problem in starter motor.Another thing to check is clean/tight cable connections for battery/starter at sol, also check for clean tight neg(-) cable connections at battery & where cable connects to eng/chassis(not loose, rusty or dirty).

If you haven't done so already, check battery or try charging/jumpstarting with another battery, you might have a weak/bad battery or a charging system problem & battery not being charged.

sorry iam late in replying back sick fokes the way iam checking iam using fluit 77 meter set on 12v black lead connected neg on battier red lead to starter terminal sw on/run position read 6.5 v still hook up sw in crank position 12. 67v an just clikes now back to on/run position I can unplug red wire from sol/sw to ing/sw no 6.5v the new sol/sw has 2 terminal one ground I thank you all for your help I see an under stand what your saying I will check your way an see what happens an will reply back thanks again have a bless day

the z225 is up running I starded goinging through the wiring harrnes from start to end to ground the ground was the problem fix that hit the startswitch she busted off and running so thanks to all for your input and have bless day
