Unusal short circuit.

I had made changes to riding mower seat. When I put my big butt on seat and turned the key on, the seat shorted against the postive post sending sparks out. I turned battery around, battery is under seat. Went to start mower, nothing, blown fuse. In my mind I thought no way could this have blown a fuse, but it did. Goes to prove electrons exit battery from negative post and find their way back to the postive post any way possible.

Your seat must be metal to cause a short. It happened on my garden tractor when I was using a full size car battery. When I closed the hood the positive post shorted against the hood burning off a little paint. I now use the battery used by GM cars that have side connections. I had to change the battery cables too. Something does not add up.

If the battery is under the seat and the metal seat made contact with the positive post of the battery when you sat in it, then that is when the short circuit would have taken place instantly. There was no need to turn the ignition key in order for that short circuit to take place. The fact that you blew the main fuse also tells me that you have not found the true problem here. Fuses only blow when the current passing through them exceeds the rating of the fuse. In order for that to happen, the short would have to occur somewhere beyond the side of the fuse that feeds the ignition switch.

Think about it.

Either something else is going on here or you have not told this story as it actually happened.
 
I know it sounds crazy to blow the only fuse on mower when the metal seat support, on hinges 2 springs in the back, touched the + terminal at the same I tried to start the tractor. But it happened. I've had mower for 15 years and this is the first time it eat a fuse. Used mower for about an hour with no issues.
