starter generator

have a starter generator on a # 122 cub cadet. tractor is new to me. had starter shop check out starter; changed ignition switch; starter is not working.

how do i check starter while it is on the tractor?
maybe it has lost it's ground. ??

If your tractor has a solenoid you ground it when depressing a pedal. My Wards tractor has a coil wire that has grounded mine for years. I got rid of that grounding feature on mine. Hal

Starter probably did not lose ground. Is the plug that goes on the ignition switch clean? They are known for getting rusted and not making a connection. Does the solenoid under the battery make a hard "click" when you turn the key to start? Is the clutch safety switch underneath still hooked up or like many of that age jumped across? Take a set of jumper cables, hook the positive to the battery and take the other end and touch the "A" terminal on the starter (the one with 2 wires). It should turn over this way.
