Model L versus LI Gravely

I have come to won several old Gravely convertibles. All are Model L convertible tractors except for one. I just acquired an LI sold as PARTS because the main case had filled with water & froze. BIG CRACKS! This one is an old one with a serial number under 5300 (I forgot the other two numbers) but I've been able to diassesemble the entire machine forward of the engine and basically these parts are still all usable except for the case. The engine is next!

Seems to me the "I" in LI stood for intermediate in reference to the tractor's ground speed. So here's the question: Is the LI's "intermediate" speed faster or slower than the L? Was there and L, a slower LI and an even slower LS or was there an LH that really stepped 'em off with the L being the slowest?

Would you please help this ignorant feller out?

If you can't get an answer here goto link below & look in manuals section of website,a lot of manuals/info for L series posted there.

Yup, it's all about that big worm gear that determines L, LI, LS. Everything interchanges except the worm gears IIRC. The reduction drive geared wheel option was a much better option than an LI or LS IMO. Those 12" wheels and tires work a lot better than those little 8".

Thanks for the info guys!

I have managed to disassemble it all but the piston from the cylinder and the worm from the main case. I think patience will get those too! Had disassemble the crank with it still in the rear case. It stopped with the piston at about perfect timing position. I think it filled with water until it ran out the PTO flange. When it froze it broke the main case and the forward engine casting.

Been a challenge.
