JD 317 PTO Clutch

I had to replace the field coil on my Ogura pto clutch and I read some where that if the voltage regulator fails and puts out to much voltage it can overheat the pto coil and cause it to short. By looking at my amp meter it seems to be charging a lot all of the time. My question is what is the maximum allowable voltage to the pto clutch coil? Thanks, DAve

IMHO, if it's NOT boiling the battery dry, it shouldn't kill the clutch coil.

IGNORE the ammeter for a little while and read the charging voltage across the battery terminals.

DON'T have a "spec" for a 317, but the rest of the world seems to accept 14.5 to 14.75 Volts as the max that the charging system should be putting out.

I checked it with a amp meter last night and I am ok. Wide open throttle I am charging about 13.80 volts and 13.22 with the pto engaged.
