Ok so I have a friend hwo asked me if I knew what it might cost to have an engine from his dads Bolens rebuilt. He said it has a knock in it. 2 cylinder Koler 2389. I am guessing it will need the crank worked on and maybe new rods
Thanks

Here in southern Indiana, for it to be done right, the cost would hover around the $1,000.00 mark. More or less.
Remember I said to be done right,I have had experience with them, if you patch it up there will be a breakdown in a hurry.

Done right, it's probably in the $800-1000 range, and assuming that the tractor itself is in good shape, that would be well worth it.

The Bolens HT23 and it's diesel variants, the HT20D and HDT1000, are probably the best garden tractors ever built.

To get something with their capabilities built today, you would have to get into SCUT territory and spend $10K plus.

Talked to him this evening and he was saying he was going to look into finding a diesel to fit it instead of the gas rebuild

Putting a 20hp or so diesel in the HT23 would make for one NICE tractor.

I have an HT20D with the 20 Hp. Wisconsin/Ducati diesel, and the very rare in the US, HDT1000 with a 22 Hp. Mitsubishi diesel, and they are just about unstoppable.

The GTTalk forums has a very good sub-forum for guys with diesels and diesel conversions.

He should stop in and visit...they are a really good bunch of folks with a lot of knowledge and will welcome him with open arms.

You might check around Springfield or somewhere to find someone that works on refrigerated truck trailers. They frequently have salvaged small diesel engines.
