Just bought this for $25.00. aired up 4 flat tires, fresh gas and put in a battery - but will only run if I pour gas in the carb. Pulled the gas line and get good flow. Any suggestions? Techumseh engine. What are the wires on the front of the carb? Electric choke??? Never seen that. Didn't come with manual and I just got home with it.
Was told it has been sitting for a year.

Its most likely a fuel shut off solenoid check to see if there is 12 VDC going to it when you turn the ignition key on if not that's the problem if there is check for a clicking sound it could be stuck in the shut off position from sitting.

I tried jumping it and got a single click and now absolutely nothing. I took the unit off and the plunger is free. Is there a fuse somewhere?
From the numbers I think this was made in Nov 2000.

sounds like jets in the carb are plugged up.
A good carb teardown and cleaning is in order if the shutoff solenoid is ok and is activating.
A safety interlock issue could be preventing the fuel shutoff solenoid from operating when cranking. Check for voltage at the fuel solenoid with engine switch on and all safety things in place. On seat, neutral, deck off, etc.

it won't even crank now, I tried to by-pass the fuel shutoff - not even a click - is there a fuse somewhere?

Yes there is a fuse and probably need to remove the battery under the seat to get to it and the solenoid.

Check in the threads of the bowl bolt, for several small holes in there. Thats the bolt that holds the bowl onto the carburetor. Also, float the float overnight, in a can of gasoline, to see if it sinks or floats. Poke in the holes with a fine wire, like a tip cleaner, but don"t jugg it to much. Might also check the starter solenoid. they do go bad. Machine looks as if it had lots of TLC. RJ

Looks sort of like an MTD that I just got running. Pull the gear shift cover off. There was a fuse holder on mine in the back right corner of the frame right at the top. Wire to carb is a fuel shutoff. Carb probably needs to be cleaned and a new kit. Had a Sears that had sat for a few years and it was all varnished up.

Electric main jet and a big problem. BTDT and that carb is a problem from the get go. In the past I have taken them and took the electric main jet and put on a screw type to fix the problem. That jet is a solenoid set up that opens the main when you turn the key on and if it goes bad no open main so no gas on the engine

First of all let me thank everyone for the ideas. Once I lined it back up with the Y2K mark and then replaced the blown fuse, it's back to turning over real well. Now I'll address the fuel issue. I'll post how that turns out. Thanks again!
