17 hp Kohler engine Series I or Series II Question

I found a Kohler 17hp engine for sale, but I am not sure if it is the Series I or a Series II engine. Here is the information from the engine, Model number: KT17S Spec number: 24125a Serial number: 9825599. If someone out there can help me identify which one it is, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jack

Engine in photo is a Series II 'cuz it has the oil bypass plate you see in the photo, held on with 2 bolts... Could also have a oil filter or remote filter adapter at this location. Series I has NOTHING attached to the bare crankcase at this area.

Jack in Michigan:

Per Kohler's service manual:

KT-17 Series I - Spec Number 24001 to 24299
KT-17 Series II - Spec Number 24300 & higher

You have a Series I engine based on your Spec Number.

In addition to the photo previously posted, NOT all series II engines have the Oil Filter provision. I have one in my Cub Cadet that has no block off plate.
