John Deere L 110

answer: Magnet fell off the alternator under the flywheel. Really old battery. No water (fluid) in battery. Dead cell in battery. Bad, or loose connection of ground wire to frame, or rust at ground bolt. Bad charging diode. Need more? Maybe ignition switch has a bad inner part/s. Battery cables full of dried acid/ etc.
Cables connected wrong polarity. Bad starter.
Warning: Don"t start buying all of these things until you get professional help. It will be cheaper in the long run, than buying a mess of parts, before you know what is the problem. Problem could be in ignition switch-maybe.

If you have a rectifier/regulator you should use a volt meter set on AC volts to see if you're getting about 30 volts to your rectifier. You would need to run the engine at 1/2 throttle or better. Be careful where you place your hands. Here are several wiring diagrams used on some Kohler engines. Hal

If you have AC voltage use your volt meter set on DC volts to see what your charging voltage is across the battery terminals. Engine speed should be at 1/2 throttle or better. If you see only 12 volts your rectifier probably needs replacing. Before you do that remove your negative battery cable at the battery. Then remove one wire at a time and clean it, then reconnect each wire at the rectifier. When this is completed reconnect your battery cable and start the engine. Recheck the charging voltage at your battery if there's no change I think your rectifier needs replacing. Hal
