Have one that will run fine till it gets hot, then
won't handle a load and wants to quit. Thinking it
is the Regulator/Rectifier it was hot so I chilled
it with a spray of WD40 and it ran fine for a bit.
Do those things fail with heat? Is that what you
would call a Coil?
Thanks for any ideas.

NO!

As it says on the label, it is a rectifier/voltage regulator. It rectifies the AC current produced by the permanent magnet under-flywheel alternator and regulates it so the battery is kept properly charged.

Since the engine has mag ignition (NOT powered by battery voltage) you could unplug the unit you've posted a photo of and toss it over your shoulder and the engine should continue to run just as before. But the battery won't be charged and eventually the electric PTO clutch is gonna drop out from low voltage.

It is an electronic assembly mounted to a plastic circuit board. When it gets hot, expansions pulls a printed connection apart. Cooling it off lets the connection go back together.

Just read this post. The regulator is for the charge system. Your engine trouble is the ignitor. This is a little square thing about the size of a postage stamp. It is screwed to the side of the engine on the right side. It has one or two wires on some Kawasaki engines and others have a 1/4 stake on. Is is a variable resistor for the ignition coil. Dealer has them and is not cheap. Flea bay has them and much cheaper. Been there done that. Fixed the engine trouble. Jeffcat
