homemade STX 38 hood = John Deere H

~three years ago I broke the hood on my '93 John Deere STX 38 rider; been going topless since. Replacement hoods are outrageous $$'s and www. searches for used are just about as high. Yesterday I had the idea of using plywood and creating a hood that would look like the John Deere's of old, complete with screen grill - for ventilation. Stencil it 'H' as my late dad had one.

Anyone manufacture a hood? Is this a stupid idea? Input, ideas, suggestions appreciated.

I have thought about a hood from a junk crapsman on my 325. There is no way I am spending what JD wants for a new piece of plastic.
