Wife was mowing the yard when she said it lugged down and died. Has a Kohler engine. I am changing the inline fuel filter but now I cannot get the starter to turn the engine over. Took the starter to electrical shop and guy said it was fine. It has had some issues in starting in the past but keep playing with it and it starts. Usually starts the first try but causes problems after that if shutdown and start again or quit cranking the first time. Any ideas as to what I should look at? Thanks in advance for all your help.

I think that model has an electric clutch.
If it does,
from the way you describe the problem, see if the engine crankshaft is free to turn. if its not, remove the electric clutch from the engine and try again. You may have a seized bearing in the clutch.

I can turn it over using a screwdriver on the flywheel. I don't know how easily it should turn over if the clutch was stuck. Thanks

TRK, thanks for the suggestion. I took the electric clutch off and it turned right over. Will take the clutch to John Deere in the morning to see what can be done. Thanks again. Wayne
