coil on 224 case.

Where on the engine should the ignition coil be fastened on an older (1973) case 224.When I got mine, it was mounted outside of the engine compartment. I bolted it to the left side of the engine sideways. Seems I've blown a coil now. Is it because I put it sideways? Anyway I'd like to put it where the factory had it.

I know lots of Kohlers have them there, it's just that there don't seem to be holes or other evidence of it ever having been there. Slowly trying to restore this thing to original. Thanks for your reply and the picture.

My coil,on a K231,14 HP, on a 1420 Cub Cadet, is
mounted right above the starter.

Got several coils that need specs for. Rebuilding several Case garden tractors, 220, 224, and 444.
