345 charging problem

If you have a rectifier/regulator you should use a volt meter and see if you have AC volts feeding the rectifier. Should see around 30 volts with the engine at 1/2 throttle or better. Be careful
where you put your hands with the engine running.

If you have AC volts switch your meter to DC volts
to see if you have voltage. Hal

Also after checking the stator for 30 VAC, shut down the engine and use an ohmmeter to check the stator leads for a short to the engine block.

I worked on an Onan engine in a JD 318 where stator voltage was fine, but would not charge I checked the stator for a short to ground and found it shorted to the engine block. Replaced the stator and all was well.
