Case 224 mower

I have mounted my mower deck on my 224 for the first time. Several questions have come up.
1. The lift links seem a bit long. I say this because it barely lifts the mower off the ground at all. If I set the mower wheels to cut at a higher level they would continue to touch the ground all the time and the tractor wouldnt lift high enough to get them off the ground. It doesnt look like there is an adjust ment to change the lift height. Is this normal? What am I missing here?

2. The pto clutch seems to operate backwards. It has the lever that moves up and down to engage and disengage the mower (or other front mounted attachments). If I push the lever down, the mower engages and nicely stays engaged. This is opposite of what the decal says. Up is supposed to be engaged. If I pull it up the mower stops. If I pull it up with a bit more effort the mower somewhat engages again however the engine labors and it doesnt stay engaged when I let go. I looked at what happens at the clutch itself when I do this. Pulling the lever up pulls the clutch arm towards the engine also making contact with what looks like maybe a brake. (not sure). Pushing it down moves the arm forward towards the oil cooler and it feels like theres a detent or it goes somewhat over center and therefor it stays engaged there. I've tryed to give detail about it here, unless you have worked on one of these it probably makes no sense. Sorry. Can someone give some insight here? I looked for linkage assembled backwards and don't see how that would even be possible.

3. The adjustment on the the back of the mower, does that simply level it front to back? Or what are those for?

Your first complaint is common....because it is normal for these
tractors. You can somewhat solve the problem with two short
3/8" bolts, 4 flat washers and two 3/8" nylock nuts. Install a
bolt with a flat washer through the long slot. Put another flat
washer on the other side and add the nylock nut.

This shortens the length of the slot, causing the lift to pick up
the deck sooner and thus raise it off the ground more. Keep in
mind that when you put the deck down on the ground, you need
to move the lift lever so that the pin that lifts the deck is sitting
in the middle of the slot. This allows the deck to float up and
down during mowing.

Send me an e-mail and I will send you the Parts Manual for your
tractor and the clutch manual. The parts manual should help
you figure out if the clutch linkage is assembled incorrectly or
not. The clutch manual will help you determine what might be
wrong with it.

I will also send you an Op manual for your mower deck that will
explain how to set it up for the optimum cut.

I have parts manuals for the tractor and attachments. If there's a clutch manual, that would be great.
also the operators manuals would be helpful. Email- [email protected]. Thanks so much for all your help.

Having some trouble with my email.. I sent you a thank you reply but am uncertain that it actually sent. If not I just want to thank you for the manuals and for your help. This makes it so much easier to figure things out.

No... I did not receive your letter.

Hope you sort out your problems. Feel free to contact me further.

Cheers

Mowed all my lawn with this unit today. I had shortened the lift links by about an inch. Now it lifts enough to get over a rough patch in the back yard where I simply travel to get to the next piece of lawn. This thing cuts beautifully. What a well built mower. Next project is to figure out my mower clutch.
