aftermarket Kohler fuel pumps

The fuel pump on my 12 k-series kohler has been giving me problems lately. I take it apart and everything work ok for a while. I know it's got a ton of hours on it. Kohler pumps run about $80-90 from what I can see. There appear to be lots of $35 replacement pumps available. Does anyone have any experience with these cheaper replacement units. Right now I've bypassed the pump and it works ok but could be better.

If you've got that engine on equipment with a 12 volt electrical system, an electric fuel pump would work better than the Kohler or aftermarket mechanical pump ever would. Trick is to get one with internal regulator or use a regulator since you don't want to exceed 2 psi and 1.5 psi is better.

I have found that Kohler makes two fuel pumps for most of their engines, The high priced one is made of metal and the cheaper one is made of plastic. I have found the plastic one to be as good as the metal ones.

Actually, I think I had one freeze. It was plastic and from Kohler($42). It worked for an hour, then we had a hard freeze and engine would not run. I put the old one back on and it ran fine.

I replaced the same exact pump for a guy and he is having the same issues. I think the new plastic pump was defective. I need to call him up and try to remedy that for him.
