JD 214 helper spring installation

I am in the process of purchasing the helper spring (#AM 36006) for my 1986 JD 214 with manual lift. Looking at it have a good idea how it mounts, but, there is a long bolt (3/8" x 6 1/2")with the kit and I'm not sure how to adjust that bolt. Has anyone installed one of these and can explain how the best way is to install and adjust it properly? Any assistance is always appreciated.

Save yourself some time and frustration and busted knuckles. You need the very explicit pictorial instructions in the gallery at weekendfreedommachines.com. Those things are like a puzzle. They only go on one way and there are a bunch of other ways that might look right until you try them. Hint: The first time you install a helper spring, you should take off the wheels and the pedals and the fender deck.
