Remington super 754 Chainsaw

I have a Remington super 754 chainsaw that i got from a friend. The problem is that when I pull the rope it wont catch so im not able to see if it runs. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I had (have?) an old [1950s?] Remington ChainSaw that when you pulled the rope three pawls were supposed to come out and catch the corners of a large nut on the crankshaft. The nut was worn where the pawls hit and one pawl was missing. Never found a replacement pawl so did not get the nut welded and remachined. Not sure if that old dog is still around or not, never wanted to cut wood that bad...

It is possible that the starter pawls may be rusted or stuck due to dirt. If it is not too difficult, remove the starter and put some penetrating oil on them to see if they will free up. Never worked on a
Remington, but this has worked several times on my Craftsman saws.

Pull the recoil cover off and you should see the pawls. Either they are stuck or rusted in place....or missing! Start there.
