Ford LGT100

I have a 1973 (?) Ford LGT100. Rugged old girl.
I managed to lose the idler pulley that is part of the mower belt assembly. Anyone know of a source. The pulley apparently worked loose and fell off this winter some time. Help! Thanks

I have a similar tractor(s) and those pulleys are typically a "flat" pulley with a ball bearing hub and available at tractor supply. You will also need the adaptor bushing which fits in the center bearing for use with a 3/8 diameter bolt. This of course assumes you have the old pulley or can guess what size you need. I have also bought many parts from the local New Holland dealer for these old tractors.

Thanks Ken...I have both a Northern Tool and a Tractor Supply near by---and a Ford/New Holland
dealer not too far away. Do you know--or can you look--are both pulleys the same size? I never really noticed when I was putting the v-belt on.
I have the one the left side (as facing the front of the tractor) and if they"re the same I can simply take that one off and match it. Thanks for your help. Pat Klise

Is the idler pulley you need mounted on the mower deck or part of the mower drive system and mounted on the tractor? The mowers I have to check for you are a LT 75 which is a 8HP vertical shaft; it uses a short belt from the engine to a jack shaft, the mower drive belt then attaches to the bottom end of the jack shaft to drive the mower blades. The mower deck has two blades...I think (?) this is similar to the LT 100. I also have a LGT 16 which is a horizon shaft engine with an electric clutch for the mower drive. The deck has 3 blades. I can get the pulley sizes for you once I am clear on which pulley.

Ken...my mower has 3 blades...the belt goes from a pulley on top the mower...then to an assembly that mounts on the tractor that has two pulleys..
( think it"s called a mule or something like that)..the belt goes around the first pulley and then up to the electric clutch..then down to the
2nd pulley and back to the pulley on top of the
mower..the pulley I"m missing is ( I think) the
idler pulley. Hope this helps. Pat

Well I guessed wrong, my 16 HP has the mule setup you described and three blades. I will have that unit off the tractor this week to sharpen the blades and can measure the pulleys at that time.

In the mean time I did measure the pulleys on the smaller tractor deck with two blades. The idler pulley setup is similar in that one pulley is fixed and the other pulley is used to tighten the belt once the deck is in place. For the two blade deck the fixed pulley is 3.25" diameter and the tensioner pulley is 3.50" diameter. All measurements are the inner flat diameter that the back side of the belt runs against. I replaced the fixed pulley (it has a TSC price tag on it) so I can't say if it is the same size as the orginal. However, in answer to your question I believe if you get close to the size everything should work since the system uses the spring loaded tensioner pulley.

Let me know if you want the sizes of the three blade deck pulleys.

Thanks again Ken...if it"s not too much trouble when you have the 3 bladed mower out for sharpening if you"ll measure the idler pulley for me. I"m going out this morning to poke around with the mower & tractor to see what I can see. Then probably go up the Ford/New Holland dealer. A few years ago I needed a part for the tractor and they surpised me by having it. Thanks again.. Pat Klise

I measured the idler pulley my three blade deck. It only uses one idler pulley which, is used to obtain a belt wrap on all the blade pulleys and to tension the deck belt. The pulley measures 4.0" diameter on the flat surface the back of the belt runs against. Again, I can't say the pulley is OEM as I rebuilt the deck about 10 years back. As long as you can get the belt to tension I think you will be okay regarding pulley size.

Good luck

Pat,

After I posted my reply tonight I got curious since you mentioned two pulleys and re-read your posts. Is the idler pulley you lost part of the mower deck or part of the mule drive? The mule drive pulleys are v-belt pulleys not flat pulleys, one is fixed and one has a spring to tension the belt.

Ken..I went over to the Ford/New Holland dealer this morning. Had a very nice and informative guy help me...they didn"t have the idler pulley (no surprise) but he had expaned views on his computer and found a similar one that he thinks will work fine. It"s a litttle bigger than oem but thinks it will do the job. Now to get it installed and see. Thanks again. Pat
