Craftsman Mower Question

This may not be the right place to ask, but I need some help. My Daughter has a Craftsman mower 4.5 hp. It only wants to run if you keep pushing the start plunger. I had it apart a week ago, did not see anything out of line and it ran good for a couple hrs. Fresh gas, air cleaner good, new plug, starts runs about 5 sec. and like runs out of gas. Push the plunger and it will start running again for a few sec. Gas tank is clean. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Carb. needs cleaning and possibly rebuilt . clean out he holes with carb cleaner and a small wire .

Briggs or Tecumseh engine?

If you are mechanical, you can try to clean out the jets in the carb with a small piece of wire.

Its a Briggs engine. Thanks for the suggestions, I will try cleaning a little more. What baffeled me was it ran so good for a few hrs, then back to its old tricks. Thanks

Not to be a smart alec, when all else fails, could the vent in tank cap be plugged & pulling vacuum in the tank?? have seen it happen.

Could be the carb, could be a tank vent, could be cracked fuel lines or a bad pump or it could be a bad switch that's arcing inside and grounding or a bare wire some place.
